The Center for Outreach and Research Engagement (CORE)

The Center for Outreach and Research Engagement (CORE) is designed to support students from underrepresented communities obtain academic success and engage in undergraduate research experiences, including creative and scholarly activities. The CORE project has three initiatives designed to increase, support, and facilitate the advancement of underrepresented students in higher education through Outreach, Retention, and Research.

By giving to CORE today, your gift will be matched $1-for-$1 up to approximately $840,000.

Your gift will support the following areas:

Outreach

The purpose of the Outreach Pillar is to support underrepresented high school students’ successful enrollment into higher education. This project assists students in the development of academic skills and provides guidance and support regarding the college admissions process during the academic year via SAT & ACT test preparation, college tours, and cultural experiences.

Retention

Through guidance, empowerment, and networking, the STAE at PC (Support, Transition, Advancement & Empowerment) Project will support first year students as they transition from high school to college, as we work to increase retention rates. STAE at PC provides experiences that will allow space for continued learning, while developing the students holistically.

STAE @ Perimeter College provides the following:

  • Programs and initiatives aimed at improving student persistence and success
  • Collaboration with academic departments and student affairs
  • Network for students seeking guidance in academics and campus resources
  • Advocacy for students
  • Work to promote a sense of community and connection

Student Mentors will be selected after a successful first year at Perimeter College (PC) through a competitive process. STAE at PC Mentors will support mentees with academic, student life, and mental health resources.

Research Engagement

Through mentoring, students will improve academic outcomes for underrepresented students by participating in research, creative, and scholarly experiences, including:

  • Career exploration in the research field
  • Hands-on experience related to research methodologies
  • Coaching and mentoring regarding research
