TODAY: Celebrate GSU Giving and Georgia Gives Day with us!

November 13, 2014

We've been off to a good start so far and we cannot wait to see how much farther we can go! There are only 22 days left in this campaign so we have to keep moving in order to reach our goal.  Since today marks both GSU Giving and Georgia Gives Day we are spreading the word about who we are and what our crowdfunding campaign is all about.

Georgia State University’s Giving Day was created last year, GSU's centennial year, as a new philanthropic tradition. It is a 24-hour online fundraising campaign that encourages University alumni, students, employees and friends from around the world to give back and support their favorite areas.

Georgia Gives Day is also a 24-hour online fundraising campaign, but it was co-created by the nonprofit sector itself.  It is collaboration of the state’s nonprofit sector pulling together to ask you to stop and consider your life and your community without nonprofits. How much less connected, less vibrant, less interesting and less supported would our communities be without nonprofits?

As residents throughout the state are giving to groups and organizations they support, we are asking them to also help the next generation of nonprofit leaders on their journey.  Our chapter of NLA has made some remarkable achievements both locally and nationally.  Our student members are gaining skills and expertise in a well-rounded variety of areas and settings.  Here are five reasons why you should support GSU’s chapter of NLA:

  1. We Are Experienced: To become a Certified Nonprofit Leader (CNP) through NLA each member must complete a 300 hour internship, participate in fundraising, networking, and community service events, and attend the Alliance Management Institute (AMI), NLA’s annual national conference.

  2. We Are Committed: Andrew Young School of Policy Studies’ Nonprofit Management program is 12th in the nation out of 269 public affairs schools in the US. The GSU NLA chapter is the largest chapter in the nation.  Last year our chapter of NLA even won the Sprint Campus of the Year award at the AMI conference!

  3. We Are Diverse: Georgia State is a very diverse university and NLA showcases this diversity. We have students from both the undergraduate and graduate level. Our students are not just from a nonprofit background but range from Public Policy, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Communications, Economics, Law, and more!

  4. We Are Well Networked: Each year student’s are required to network through various avenues, such as: attending seminars and conferences, volunteer work, internship opportunities, and events generated by the NLA Networking Committee.

  5. We Are Philanthropic: Our chapter of NLA has accumulated over 7000 hours of community service at numerous nonprofit organizations in the metropolitan Atlanta area!

We cannot do this without the help of our network and we hope that you will spread the word about our fundraising campaign.  Thank you all for your continued support on our Road To AMI.

WE DID IT!

December 08, 2014

Dearest Supporters,

Thank you so much for helping us to achieve success on the Road to AMI! With your help, both monetarily and by sharing our project with others, we now have the funds needed to attend this year’s conference in Salt Lake City! We could not have met this goal without your help and we are very grateful for your support.

Thanks to your donations, we exceeded our goal with $7,998 which will help offset travel costs for 17 of our student members attending this year’s conference. Any funds that we have left over will go to offset student travel costs for next year’s conference.

We cannot thank you enough for your support on the Road to AMI!

Sincerely,

The Nonprofit Leadership Alliance at Georgia State University
