What Is NLA?
Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) is a national alliance of colleges, universities and nonprofits dedicated to educating, preparing, and certifying professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations. There are approximately 40 different academic institutions across the United States with Nonprofit Leadership Alliance chapters, and the Andrew Young School is proud to be a leading site in the national NLA network. NLA exists to strengthen the leadership of the social sector and sustain the ability of nonprofits to fulfill their missions with a talented and prepared workforce.
About Our Chapter:
Why Give?
As part of the certification requirements for the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA), each student must demonstrate competencies in ten key areas, one of which is fundraising. This project will offer the opportunity for our members to have a personal learning experience in fundraising through crowdfunding. Also, in order to be certified through the national affiliate of NLA, it is mandatory for student members to attend the Alliance Management Institute (AMI), an annual conference for nonprofit professionals.
This year’s conference is in Salt Lake City, UT during the New Year’s holiday and peak ski season. Since Salt Lake City is a popular tourist destination during this time, the anticipated expense for our students is higher than it has ever been. With 18 members who are planning on attending this January, we have been seeking out new avenues of income to help lessen the financial burden on our student members.
The primary goal of this project is to fund two-thirds of the conference travel expenses for our student members. As with all fundraising projects we take on, any extra money goes into our banking account to help cover the registration costs for future conference attendees from our chapter. That being said, one of our objectives is to leave some funds for next year’s NLA student members so that they will not be starting from scratch.
