Allison Calhoun-Brown, Ph.D. Vice President for Student Engagement and Programs, thanks you on behalf of the university for your support of the Emergency Assistance Fund and helping us make a difference for our students during these uncertain times.
Of Georgia State’s student body of 53,000, nearly 60 percent are from families that would fall under federal poverty guidelines. Eighty-five percent of the university’s undergraduates hold full- or part-time jobs, according to Senior Vice President for Student Success Timothy M. Renick, and many of those jobs — in sectors like food service and retail — were the first to evaporate as the economy began to sputter in March.

Because of donors like you, we have raised over $650,000 to help students during this time. Students are able to get assistance with household bills, groceries and technology needs in order to complete course work from home.
As said by a recipient of the Emergency Assistance Fund:
"I just wanted to say thank you to you and everyone that helped me obtain this financial assistance. I’m grateful, and I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have this assistance. This year has been very tough for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"
