OUR PROJECT

The Nonprofit Leadership Alliance is a national student organization that prepares our students to become competent, well-rounded nonprofit professionals. The capstone of participation in the NLA is attendance at the Alliance Management Institute (AMI). At this conference, students have the opportunity to network with nonprofit professionals, participate in real and mock interviews with prospective employers, attend workshops that focus on innovation in the sector, strategic partnerships and social change, and serve as consultants solving real issues facing local nonprofit organizations. AMI attendance qualifies each student to earn certification as a Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) upon graduation and to become part of a national network.

This January, AMI will celebrate its 70th Anniversary in in Kansas City, Missouri. To help cover costs for students attending AMI, Georgia State's NLA chapter is hoping to raise $11,500 through crowdfunding which will cover approximately three fourths of the total conference and travel expenses for fifteen students. Any extra funds raised will cover additional conference expenses or be set aside for future students' attendance at AMI.

THE IMPACT

So far, a generous gift of $5,000 from the Greater Atlanta Community Foundation has this project off to a good start but there is still a ways to go.

By supporting our project, you are not only helping our student members fulfill two of the requirements to be certified through the national affiliate of NLA, you are also helping us demonstrate our ability to raise funds and offset the financial burden of traveling to the AMI conference. Please consider making a gift today to help us achieve our goal and further our nonprofit educational experience.

Make a donation to support our next generation of nonprofit professionals.

WHAT IS NLA?

Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) is a national alliance of colleges, universities, and nonprofits dedicated to educating, preparing, and certifying professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations. There are approximately 50 different academic institutions across the United States with Nonprofit Leadership Alliance chapters and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is proud to be a leading site in the national NLA network. NLA exists to strengthen the leadership of the social sector and sustain the ability of nonprofits to fulfill their missions with a talented and prepared workforce.

About Our Chapter

Experienced: To become a Certified Nonprofit Leader (CNP) through NLA, each member must complete a 300-hour internship, participate in fundraising, networking, and community service events as well as attend the Alliance Management Institute (AMI) which is NLA’s annual national conference.

Committed: Andrew Young School of Policy Studies’ Nonprofit Management program is ranked 10th out of 269 public affairs schools in the US. The Georgia State NLA chapter is one of the largest chapters in the nation. In the past, we have won the Sprint Campus of the Year award at the AMI conference!

Diverse: NLA is a replica of the diversity apparent on Georgia State University's campuses. We have students with a broad range of interests and areas of studies from all over the world. Not surprisingly, NLA members study at both undergraduate and graduate levels. We are not just from a nonprofit background but range from Public Policy, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Communications, Economics, Law, and more! However, regardless of our areas of studies, all of us share a common goal: “to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations”.

Well-Networked: Each year, NLA members are required to enhance their networking skills through events generated by the NLA Networking Committee. These events include, but are not limited to: attending seminars and conferences, volunteer work, internship opportunities, job fairs, etc.

Philanthropic: Our chapter of NLA has accumulated over 10,000 hours of community service at numerous nonprofit organizations in the metropolitan Atlanta area and beyond!
