Help Send Mock Trial at GSU to the Championship Series Tournament!

Our Project

The Mock Trial at GSU competition team needs your help supporting outstanding undergraduates as they compete in the American Mock Trial Association Tournament.  These students have big dreams, considerable talent, and a limited travel budget.

Mock Trial at GSU

The Mock Trial program at GSU consists of roughly 35 undergraduates who study trial advocacy and participate in simulated trial competitions throughout the fall and spring.  The program is sponsored by the Political Science Department, but draws participants and support from multiple majors across the university.  Each year student competitors practice their advocacy skills by developing case theories, arguments, and materials to present both the prosecution/plaintiff and defense side of a case problem developed by the American Mock Trial Association. During the fall and winter, the team participates in multiple invitational tournaments around Atlanta and the Southeast, competing against college students from all over the United States.  The team is coached by practicing trial attorneys who generously share their time and expertise.

The American Mock Trial Association Tournament Series

Each spring the American Mock Trial Association hosts a 3-stage, elimination-style tournament for undergraduates, with regional competitions in February, ORCS competitions in March, and the national championship tournament in April.  The mock trial program at GSU has built increasing success, with multiple teams advancing to ORCS over the last few years and earning bids to the AMTA Nationals competition in both 2024 and 2025.

The Best Year Yet!

In 2026, the team is poised to have its most successful year yet. During this academic year, GSU teams have placed among the top 5 teams in four separate invitational tournaments.  Individuals competitors on the GSU mock trial teams have collectively won 10 Outstanding Attorney awards and 12 Outstanding Witness Awards.   In the February regional competitions, all 3 of the program's competing teams earned bids in the regionals round to advance to the next round: the program earned 2 bids at the New Orleans regional and 1 bid at the Atlanta regional. GSU was one of only 15 schools across the nation that earned 3 bids at regionals.  Two teams of 10 students will be competing at the Opening Round Championship Series (ORCS) in Memphis in March and the program aspires to send at least one team to Nationals again this April.

Your Financial Support

We are seeking your help in raising funds to cover the transportation costs for multiple rounds of the AMTA tournament.  Twenty students will be traveling to and competing in Memphis in March 2026 for ORCS.  The team also has its sights set on AMTA Nationals in Washington, D.C. in April.  Our goal of $5000 will cover the travel costs for these final rounds in the tournament, including hotel accommodations, ground transportation, and airfare when needed. Additional funds will be used to provide the necessary competition materials for the team, including document and demonstrative production, supplies, as well as teambuilding and recruitment for the 2026-2027 competitive season.
