25th Anniversary of International Education Week
As this year comes to a close, we have the exciting opportunity to further our mission through this crowdfunding project for Study Abroad scholarships. Thanks to donor support and a generous $3,000 matching gift, we have already reached 62% of our goal! But we need your help to reach $10k by December 20.
Georgia State boasts 100+ study abroad programs that serve ~800 students annually and sponsors the Free Passport Program. Our goal is to provide access to global education to all students. Research confirms that study abroad is beneficial to student success and career development.
- Study abroad has an overall positive impact on the development of a wide range of 21st century job skills.
- On the whole, students who study abroad are 6.2% more likely to graduate in 4 years compared with non-study abroad students. Among underrepresented minority students, those who study abroad are 11.6% more likely to graduate in 4 years and among first generation college students, those who study abroad are 11.4% more likely to graduate in 4 years.
Together we can ensure every student benefits academically and gains valuable career experiences to thrive in an increasingly global workplace, regardless of their financial situation. Let’s empower the next generation of global leaders.

“I want to become a U.S. Foreign Service Officer, so this experience contributed directly to my career aspirations. Studying at one of the most prestigious schools in Europe gave me a better understanding of global issues and ways to actively contribute to progress. Not only did this study abroad opportunity help prepare me academically, but it also helped me grow as a person. I learned so much about cultural sensitivity, cultural exchange, and building mutual understanding. These traits are crucial to becoming a successful diplomat.”

“Studying abroad has helped me to become more confident in my ability to adapt to different learning environments and teaching styles. In addition, studying abroad has prepared me career-wise by providing opportunities where I can practice my leadership and cooperation skills. For example, my program provided us with the opportunity to participate in an academic symposium in which skills such as team work, leadership, and critical thinking were important.”

“This day was one of my favorites from the trip. We took a train up to Orvieto to look around and recite our sonnets while looking down at the beautiful fields of grape vines and olive trees. What made this day so special and entertaining was our matching hats. Dr. Voss had worn this hat every day since we arrived and as a group, we decided to surprise him by all showing up to the train station with them on. We all loved it and it made each of us easier to spot!”
