What is the Just-In-Time Fund?
The Just-In-Time Fund was created through a partnership with the Emeriti Association and the Honors College. The fund's purpose is to provide exceptional students with the opportunity to further their education and make them more competitive for national awards and scholarships like Rhodes, Marshall, and Gilman. Since its inception by former Emeriti Board Chair, Harry Dangel, approximately 60 Georgia State University Emeriti have donated over 60,000 dollars to the fund and over 80 students have received funding.
Why Give?
By making a gift to the Just-In-Time Fund, you help deserving Honors College students take advantage of extraordinary professional opportunities by supporting their research, publications, and attendance at professional conferences. The importance of these experiences and their impact on our student's personal and professional growth can not be overstated. In the past, recipients have gone on to conferences to present research ranging from criminology to public health.
Meet Former Just-In-Time recipient now Ph.D. candidate, Sophie Yount
The Just-In-Time fund made it possible for Sophie to take her very first trip on a plane to attend the Experimental Biology Conference in Chicago, where she presented a poster with her departmental co-author and faculty sponsor Dr. Huanbiao Mo, Chair of the Nutrition Department. Regarding her experience at the conference, Sophie emphasizes that she “never would have learned about these studies without this funding.” After having the opportunity to discuss her research with professionals attending the conference, she feels “more confident that the work I’m participating in can impact many people in the future. After a long and hard semester, it was the most gratifying thing to see my hard work finally pay off.” Sophie says that she “cannot thank the Emeriti Association enough” for the opportunity to attend the conference, adding that “it has truly been one of her greatest college experiences.” - Sophie Yount, Ph.D. Candidate, Just-In-Time Fund Recipient |
