Our Nonprofit Future Begins with AMI

Our Project

As part of the certification requirements for the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA), each student member of NLA must demonstrate competencies in ten key areas, one of which is fundraising. Additionally, each student must also attend the Alliance Management Institute (AMI)—an annual conference for nonprofit professionals. This project not only offers our members the opportunity to learn more about fundraising through crowdfunding, but it will also help cover costs for up to 15 students who plan to attend AMI this year. Traveling to the conference this year will cost each student approximately $1,130, and we are hoping to raise $11,300 to cover at least two thirds of the costs incurred.

By attending the conference, our students will have the opportunity to network with nonprofit professionals, participate in real and mock interviews with prospective employers, attend workshops that focus on innovation in the sector, strategic partnerships and social change, and serve as consultants solving real issues facing local nonprofit organizations.

Why Give?

The next Alliance Management Institute (AMI) will be held in January 2017 in Denver, Colorado. As can be imagined, the expenses associated with this conference are higher than usual for our students since they will be traveling just after the New Year’s Holiday and at the peak of ski season.

The goal of this project is to raise $11,300 which will fund approximately two thirds of the total conference travel expenses for our student members, and any additional funds will be used to further reduce their financial burden. Primarily led by students, GSU NLA strives to run a sustainable organization and offer each qualified member the opportunity to become certified with NLA.

By supporting our project, you are not only helping our student members fulfill two of the requirements to be certified through the national affiliate of NLA, you are also helping us demonstrate our ability to raise funds and offset the financial burden of traveling to the AMI conference. Please consider making a gift today to help us achieve our goal and further our nonprofit education experience.

What Is NLA?

Nonprofit Leadership Alliance (NLA) is a national alliance of colleges, universities, and nonprofits dedicated to educating, preparing, and certifying professionals to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations. There are approximately 40 different academic institutions across the United States with Nonprofit Leadership Alliance chapters, and the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies is proud to be a leading site in the national NLA network. NLA exists to strengthen the leadership of the social sector and sustain the ability of nonprofits to fulfill their missions with a talented and prepared workforce.

About Our Chapter

Experienced: To become a Certified Nonprofit Leader (CNP) through NLA, each member must complete a 300-hour internship, participate in fundraising, networking, and community service events as well as attend the Alliance Management Institute (AMI) which is NLA’s annual national conference.

Committed: Andrew Young School of Policy Studies’ Nonprofit Management program is ranked 10th in the nation out of 269 public affairs schools in the US. The GSU NLA chapter is one of the largest chapters in the nation. In the past, we have won the Sprint Campus of the Year award at the AMI conference!

Diverse: NLA is a replica of the diversity apparent on Georgia State University's campuses. We have students with a broad range of interests and areas of studies from all over the world. Not surprisingly, NLA members study at both undergraduate and graduate levels. We are not just from a nonprofit background but range from Public Policy, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Communications, Economics, Law, and more! However, regardless of our areas of studies, all of us share a common goal: “to strengthen and lead nonprofit organizations”.

Well-Networked: Each year, NLA members are required to enhance their networking skills through events generated by the NLA Networking Committee. These events include, but are not limited to: attending seminars and conferences, volunteer work, internship opportunities, job fairs, etc.

Philanthropic: Our chapter of NLA has accumulated over 10,000 hours of community service at numerous nonprofit organizations in the metropolitan Atlanta area and beyond!
