After-School All-Stars Atlanta is a recognized national leader in providing comprehensive afterschool programming to middle school and elementary aged children. This program creates a way of keeping at-risk children safe while promoting success both inside and outside of the classroom. Founded in 1994, ASAS is one of the longest-running after-school programs in Metro Atlanta and serves more middle school students than any other program in the city. The organization takes pride in being one of the only programs in the city that offers nutritious hot supper meals to all participants before going home and is the partner of choice for after-school programming in APS. Some of these subjects include academic readiness, STEM learning, career exploration, visual & performing arts, sports, cultural, health/well-being, nutrition, and community enrichment; all offered to some of Georgia's most disadvantaged but deserving children and families. ASAS served over 3,000 children at 16 metro Atlanta sites and nine summer academies for 2022-2023. Of those children, 97% are African American, 2% are Hispanic, and 1% are either Asian or Caucasian. In 2021-2022, 70% of program participants scored higher than non-participants on the Georgia Standardized Test. Students continued to score higher in the following year exceeding the organization's academic milestone expectations. Although all scores fell within the same official level (Level 2: Developing Learner), the overall higher scores are a testament of All-star's successful programming; particularly given that they accept all students and encourage special-need children to join. Faculty from Georgia State University’s College of Education and Human Development regularly contribute to curriculum development, program evaluation, and quality assurance. ASAS employs certified teachers as after-school instructors and coaches, helping to improve student academic skills and performance through daily engagement where they are able to create profound and heartfelt relationships.
Through this quality, evidence-based, and high performing program, students will achieve increased success in academics and personal growth while experiencing meaningful learning interactions with accredited adult role models.
