Panther Breakaway International Trip to Costa Rica

This project has ended, but you can still make a gift! Click Here.

Panther Breakaway and the Office of Civic Engagement is making its third annual international service learning trip to Costa Rica. This service trip is being coordinated in partnership with the Peacework Development Fund, Inc. During our week in Costa Rica, ten students will focus on teaching English and engaging students in other educational activities. We will provide basic infrastructure improvement at the Guayabo primary school, where we have engaged in service activities for three years. We will also be building a playground at the Bonilla primary school. This trip will not only aid the members of this Costa Rican community, but enrich and expand the lives of the Georgia State students through this service learning experience that will last a lifetime.

We are seeking your help to raise funds to cover the cost for meals, transportation, lodging, program fees associated with traveling to Costa Rica and project materials for the playground. Our goal of $5,000 will help offset these costs to reduce the financial burden placed on the eight students participating in the program. By making a gift you will help Georgia State students make a meaningful impact on the rural Costa Rican community with less of a financial burden. Please support Panthers who are serving the world by making a gift to our project today!

Panther Breakaway in the Office of Civic Engagement has been offering alternative break trips serving communities in the Southeast United States for many years now. This Panther Breakaway trip will be our second international trip and is aimed at combining service learning with cultural competency that will be useful for students as they begin their careers in today’s globalized workforce. Panther Breakaway participants serve the world by helping to build stronger communities, touch the lives of those in need and form new relationships. The impact of these experiences promotes both personal and professional development and serves as the catalyst for a lifelong commitment to active citizenship. Most students will continue to engage in thoughtful action and service as they recognize and become more aware of social and cultural issues beyond the trip. Panther Breakaway alumni have shared stories about how attending a service trip changed their career goals by introducing them to social justice issues and career paths they had not previously considered. Students also have the opportunity to build transferable skills that they can use regardless of their professional goals. To learn more about Panther Breakaway and our other service learning trips, please visit our website.

Thank you so much for your support. Please help us spread the word by sharing our project with family and friends.

With your gift to Panther Breakaway International Trip to Costa Rica, the Georgia State University Foundation will offset costs of student travel and group expenses for the fourth Panther Breakaway International service trip to Costa Rica. Any additional funds will continue to offset the costs of travel and supplies. If funds remain inactive for six (6) months, they will be transferred to the Neuroscience Institute's operating fund.
