Who We Are
The Neuroscience Institute (NI) at Georgia State University was launched in 2008 and is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. Prominent among many key achievements of our first 10 years are the successful establishment of both a PhD and BS degree in Neuroscience. We now have over 50 graduate and 400 undergraduate students, and faculty participation across 17 departments. In honor of this significant anniversary, we are launching the This is TEN campaign to help raise funds for undergraduate development, graduate professional development, poster sessions, lunches with speakers and other social events. Funds raised from alumni and friends are the SOLE source of support for these events, and if you have ever participated in one, you know how much they mean to our students.
The Impact
We hope to raise at least $10,000 to help fund student workshops and recruitment, professional development for both undergraduate and graduate students, poster session events, and an extensive number of outreach programs we administer through the NI.
Our project will specifically address 3 areas of the Georgia State University Strategic Plan:
1. These funds will help us continue to recruit a diverse and strong student candidate pool through advertising at local and international conferences.
2. These funds will go towards the continual development and improvement of our current graduate professional development series. One main aim of this series is to encourage graduate students to secure external funding during their graduate tenure and simultaneously prepare them for future grant writing success.
3. Finally, these funds will help establish and maintain an undergraduate professional development workshop series that will help prepare undergraduates for the post-graduate workforce and/or graduate school. The money raised will help recruit speakers and give scholarships to current students.
With your gift to This is TEN!, the Georgia State University Foundation will provide programmatic support for Georgia State University's Neuroscience Institute. All donations collected will be administered through the Neuroscience Institute's foundation account as expenses are incurred.
Support an undergrad or graduate student's lunch during a professional development opportunity!
This will help us recruit the best and brightest next generation of neuroscientists.
This will help support students by funding a meet & greet with a world renowned scientist that visits GSU!
This will help us provide students the chance to meet one of the Brains & Behavior Distinguished Lecturers over a working lunch.
This level of support will help pay for an entire Undergraduate Poster Session.
