Send Georgia State's Carnival Medea to Scotland

Our Project:

Carnival Medea is a retelling of the Greek tragedy Medea set in Trinidad, and written by Georgia State University professor, Shirlene Holmes and performing artist, Rhoma Spencer.  After the production’s debut last summer, the 18 students and production assistants were invited to attend the 2015 International Collegiate Theater Festival (ICTF) in Edinburgh, Scotland. This will be the first time Georgia State University presents a theatrical production on the international stage and we are the first school in Georgia invited to participate in the festival!

Why Give:

The cost of the trip will be around $5,800 per student, which includes festival fees, airfare, ground transportation and accommodations. Our crowdfunding goal is to offset the trip cost as much as possible for the student performers and student crew members. Your donations will help remove financial barriers and allow Georgia State students to showcase their talent in the International Collegiate Theater Festival this August. Please make a donation to send Carnival Medea to Scotland and get us one step closer to participating in this amazing experience!

About Us:

Carnival Medea is adapted from Euripides tragedy, Medea. The retelling of this classic Greek drama is set in the ancient myth of a woman scorned in the carnival tradition of Trinidad. The carnival archetypes are brought to life in the characters of the play, creating and exploration of a woman who must balance a warning from the spirits or unleash a terrible violence on those around her. Carnival Medea interprets an old story through the African diaspora and the multicultural heart of the Caribbean Trinidad. The production features music and dance by Trinidadian choreographer Natalie Settle-Joseph.

Please join us for one of our final performances in July before we leave for Scotland. Details and exact performance dates will be posted as we get closer.
